Day 8: Let all mortal flesh keep silence

You can hear the tune here.

1. Let all mortal flesh keep silence,
And with fear and trembling stand;
Ponder nothing earthly minded,
For with blessing in His hand,
Christ our God to earth descendeth,
Our full homage to demand.

2. King of kings, yet born of Mary,
As of old on earth He stood,
Lord of lords, in human vesture,
In the body and the blood;
He will give to all the faithful
His own self for heavenly food.

3. Rank on rank the host of heaven
Spreads its vanguard on the way,
As the Light of light descendeth
From the realms of endless day,
That the powers of hell may vanish
As the darkness clears away.

4. At His feet the six winged seraph,
Cherubim with sleepless eye,
Veil their faces to the presence,
As with ceaseless voice they cry:
Alleluia, Alleluia
Alleluia, Lord Most High!

The words that strike me about this song, combined with the tune, are regal, majestic and powerful! Phrases like "Christ our God to earth descended, our full homage to demand" and "Rank on rank the host of heaven spread it's vanguard on the way"--proclaim the greatness of the One arriving!
"King of kings, yet born of Mary" : The Marvel of the Hypostatic Union, Christ being fully God and fully man!   "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the Glory as of the Only Begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth!" John 1:14
If that doesn't fill you with wonder and awe, you should evaluate your heart.  God of Gods, Lord of Lords, and King of Kings "took the form of a bondservant and coming in the likeness of men, and being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross! Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and has given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of JESUS every knee should bow, of those in heaven and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that JESUS CHRIST IS LORD, TO THE GLORY OF GOD THE FATHER!" (Philippians 2: 8-11)

"As with ceasless voice" let US cry,
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia, LORD MOST HIGH: Emmanuel: God with us!
