Day 17: Hark the Herald Angels Sing

Hark the herald angels sing : Lyrics

Hark the herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled"
Joyful, all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With the angelic host proclaim:
"Christ is born in Bethlehem"
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"

Christ by highest heav'n adored
Christ the everlasting Lord!
Late in time behold Him come
Offspring of a Virgin's womb
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see
Hail the incarnate Deity
Pleased as man with man to dwell
Jesus, our Emmanuel
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"

Hail the heav'n-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings
Ris'n with healing in His wings
Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"

If you hadn't noticed by now, I really enjoy old carols that no one really sings anymore, but have rich truths, and usually have an aversion to those "classic" carols that everyone knows, but no one really pays attention to the words.
This carol is untypical!  When was the last time I sung this song and really thought about it, though? I know the words, so I focus on my harmony part and lose the powerful message!
"Veiled in flesh the Godhead see, Hail the incarnate Deity! Pleased as man with men to dwell, Jesus our Emmanuel! Hark! the herald angels sing! Glory to the newborn king!"

If you have been following my carol posts for the past three weeks, you may see a pattern. I am transfixed by the Incarnation of my God! He became flesh!  I cannot wrap my mind around it, and yet I cannot get my mind away from it!

Because He became flesh, He was like as me, was in all points tempted as I am, yet without sin, becoming the only perfect High Priest, who is able to sympathize with my weaknesses!  Let us therefore come boldly before the throne of grace that we may find mercy and grace to help in time of need!

JESUS!! Our Emmanuel! I've been thinking about God's incarnation a lot this year as well! Especially as it relates to Christ "becoming sin for us!" He made Him to BE SIN FOR ME, that I might become the righteousness of God IN HIM!" Wow!

Also, I've really enjoyed all the different stanzas that we normally don't sing! Often they're the ones that bless my heart the most! Thanks for doing this, Soph! I'm continually encouraged and blessed my it!
