1st ANNIVERSARY:The Purpose of this Blog

I have been blogging for ONE WHOLE YEAR!
This was my original post, on February 2, 2010. This was my foundational purpose statement. I pray that I have not wavered. It's been a blessing and an encouragement to me, being able to write here...and I hope it's been a blessing to you as well!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~As I embark on this blog, I must stop and consider, what is the purpose of what I am doing? What is the purpose of this blog? You may be thinking, why do you need to have a purpose? Aren’t most blogs simply thoughts or whatever the blogger wants to say? That is mostly true. But it has been said, “If a man doesn’t stand for something, he will fall for anything.” Even so, if this blog doesn’t stand for something, then there is no plumb line or measuring stick for what it should be like. It has been my observation that things without a purpose usually digress into something very unworthy. If I complacently start a blog, merely to talk about myself, my thoughts, and my dreams, then it is pointless, simply adding to the ever-increasing number of self-centered blogs. But, as the wondrous hymn says, “I am resolved no longer to linger, charmed by the world’s delight. Things that are higher, things that are nobler, these have allured my sight.” As a child of God, I am called to be holy (set apart, pure, undefiled), as He Himself is Holy (1 Peter 1:16). With such a high standard set before me, that of the Lord, I cannot keep to the same standard as the world. “Things that are higher, things that are nobler, these have allured my sight.” These higher things, these pure and noble things...have allured me, drawn me in. I am intrigued and exhilarated that there is a higher purpose for my life than that of this world. This world is not my permament dwelling place, but I was created for a better country which my God is preparing for me and all those who love Him. Hebrews 11:16 says, “But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared for them a city.” What a amazing thought, that God is not ashamed to be their God…oh, that the same could be said of me! In Daniel 1:8 it says, “But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself.” Daniel purposed in his heart ahead of time that he would seek to keep himself holy. It was already resolved and purposed, set in stone. No debating.
NOW I AM RESOLVED…
Resolved #1: All content will be to the purpose of glorifying God, Who deserves all glory and praise forever and ever. 1 Corinthians 10:31 “Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
Resolved #2: All content will be aimed at pleasing God. “So whether we are at home or are away [or on the internet] we make it our aim to please Him.” 2 Corinthians 5:9
Resolved #3: I will post nothing that does not pass the Philippians 4:8 guidelines: “Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and it there is anything praiseworthy: meditate on these things.”
Resolved #4: All content will be above reproach; I will have no cause to be ashamed of anything I have written. “For we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.” 2 Corinthians 5:10 “And now little children abide in Him, that when he appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.”1 John 2:28 “As it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body.” Philippians 1:20 “Do you best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:12
Resolved #5: I will not bash people with different views than my own, but neither will I be afraid to speak the truth in love. “Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for mutual edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.” Ephesians 4:29 “Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving.” Ephesians 5:4
Resolved #6: In every post it should be evident that I love God, and that I am not ashamed that I am different because I am not of this world! “For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words…of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in the glory of His Father.” Mark 8:38 “If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own, but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.” John 15:19 “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart with all your soul and with all your mind.” Matthew 22:37 “I love you, O Lord, my strength!” Ps. 18:1
Resolved #7: I will be aware that everything I write on this blog is seen by God, and that He knows if what say is true or not. I purpose then, that I am held accountable by God, that I am speaking the truth, and not being hypocritical. “Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man, and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created Him.” Col. 3:9-10 “Prove me, O Lord, and try me; test my heart and my mind. For your steadfast love is before me, and I walk in Your faithfulness.” Ps. 26:2 “Search me, O God, and know my heart, try me and know my thoughts!” Psalm 139:23 Resolved #8: I will redeem the time, recognizing how short life is, by making sure that every post is valuable, edifying, and purposeful, according to these guidelines I have set for myself. “Look carefully how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.” Ephesians 5:16-17 “So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12 “O Lord, make me to know my end and what is the measure of my days, let me know how fleeting I am!” Psalm 39:4
NOW I AM RESOLVED… “The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice. The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not slip.” Psalm 37:30-131
This is my prayer in starting this blog: that it would wise and just, reflecting on the precious law of God that is within my heart, and that, with God's help, I would not slip and break these resolutions.
HERE I STAND, I CAN DO NO OTHER.
I love your blog resolutions. I think it's so important to have a purpose for your blog, or else it's very easy to stray towards things that aren't very worthwhile.
