**Birthday Blessings**

Yep! Today was my 19th birthday!
One of those crazy, doesn't-really-feel-like-a-birthday birthdays...not because of anyone's neglect or forgetfulness (so don't feel bad Mom and Dad:), but because responsibilities trump partying:)
Though today wasn't the type of birthday I always longed for as a child...it was a pretty special day!
Some of the blessings from God today...
  • The roads weren't too icy...so I stayed alive to celebrate my birthday:)
  • My mommy got up early and made me a hot breakfast!
  • My little sisters got up early to give me birthday hugs before I went off to school!
  • My sister and daddy got me a Starbucks coffee and a balloon in chapel <3
  • The message in chapel was out of one of my favorite passages: Philippians 3: 10-11
  • SO many people wished me a happy birthday at school today! It was an encouragement!
  • I got a great new CD from a friend at school today: saxophone+piano=beautiful!
  • Another friend bought me a raspberry iced tea--yummy!
  • Classes and music rehearsals went well...definitely learning a lot and being challenged!
  • It was a friend's bridal shower tonight! God is faithfully working in her and her fiance's life to make them a beautiful reflection of His relationship with the church!
  • I got to eat supper with my whole family tonight! Special times to cherish...
  • I am drinking tea and spending time in the Word before bed! God's Word is alive and personal!
As I look back on the day, there were many exclamation-point-worthy things, but the best blessing of today...was the life God has given me! Every day may not be a super exciting, fun-filled day, but every day is a gift, a blessing, a treasure to invest.
God has me alive for a purpose, and He WILL work everything out for good, which means making me more into a reflection of His Son FOR HIS GLORY!
May this nineteenth year of my life bring Him glory more than any other thus far...whether that means joy or sorrow, blessings or burdens...I am His.

Understanding the Love

Do we really understand the love of Christ displayed on Calvary??? This poem by Amy Carmichael is very challenging and thought provoking.

If I belittle those whom I am called to serve, talk of their weak points in contrast perhaps with what I think of as my strong points; if I adopt a superior attitude, forgetting "Who made thee to differ? And what hast thou that thou hast not received?" then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If I find myself taking lapses for granted, "Oh, that's what they always do," "Oh, of course she talks like that, he acts like that," then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If I can enjoy a joke at the expense of another; if I can in any way slight another in conversation, or even in thought, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If I can write an unkind letter, speak an unkind word, think an unkind thought without grief and shame, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If I do not feel far more for the grieved Savior than for my worried self when troublesome things occur, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If I can rebuke without a pang, then I know nothing of Calvary love.
If my attitude be one of fear, not faith, about one who has disappointed me; if I say, "Just what I expected" if a fall occurs, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If I am afraid to speak the truth, lest I lose affection, or lest the one concerned should say, "You do not understand," or because I fear to lose my reputation for kindness; if I put my own good name before the other's highest good, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If I hold on to choices of any kind, just because they are my choice, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If I am soft to myself and slide comfortably into self-pity and self-sympathy; If I do not by the grace of God practice fortitude, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If I myself dominate myself, if my thoughts revolve round myself, if I am so occupied with myself I rarely have "a heart at leisure from itself," then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If, the moment I am conscious of the shadow of self crossing my threshold, I do not shut the door, and keep that door shut, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If I cannot in honest happiness take the second place (or the twentieth); if I cannot take the first without making a fuss about my unworthiness, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If I take offense easily, if I am content to continue in a cool unfriendliness, though friendship be possible, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If I feel injured when another lays to my charge things that I know not, forgetting that my sinless Savior trod this path to the end, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If I feel bitter toward those who condemn me, as it seems to me, unjustly, forgetting that if they knew me as I know myself they would condemn me much more, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If souls can suffer alongside, and I hardly know it, because the spirit of discernment is not in me, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If the praise of others elates me and their blame depresses me; if I cannot rest under misunderstanding without defending myself; if I love to be loved more than to love, to be served more than to serve, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If I crave hungrily to be used to show the way of liberty to a soul in bondage, instead of caring only that it be delivered; if I nurse my disappointment when I fail, instead of asking that to another the word of release may be given, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If I do not forget about such a trifle as personal success, so that it never crosses my mind, or if it does, is never given room there; if the cup of flattery tastes sweet to me, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If in the fellowship of service I seek to attach a friend to myself, so that others are caused to feel unwanted; if my friendships do not draw others deeper in, but are ungenerous (to myself, for myself), then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If I refuse to allow one who is dear to me to suffer for the sake of Christ, if I do not see such suffering as the greatest honor that can be offered to any follower of the Crucified, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If I slip into the place that can be filled by Christ alone, making myself the first necessity to a soul instead of leading it to fasten upon Him, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If my interest in the work of others is cool; if I think in terms of my own special work; if the burdens of others are not my burdens too, and their joys mine, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If I wonder why something trying is allowed, and press for prayer that it may be removed; if I cannot be trusted with any disappointment, and cannot go on in peace under any mystery, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If the ultimate, the hardest, cannot be asked of me; if my fellows hesitate to ask it and turn to someone else, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If I covet any place on earth but the dust at the foot of the Cross, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

That which I know not, teach Thou me, O Lord, my God.

-Amy Carmichael

time well spent

What counts as time well spent?
Does it have to be something profound? Does it have to be intentional? What makes something count for eternity?

Christmas break is a good time to test myself and my use of time. I heard a statement once that the true test of a man is what he does when he has nothing to do. Ouch.
When you have "nothing to do," what do you do? Read? Play video games? Facebook?
I'm pondering what it means to spend my time well, to redeem the time as Paul describes it in Ephesians. If I have 24 hours in a day, 7 days a week, for (Lord willing) approximately 70 years...that's really not that much time.
So what's a good use of time?
Something I won't regret tomorrow. Something that I won't regret when I'm 50 years old. Something that counts for eternity.
There are only a few things that count for eternity. God. The Word of God. People.
Time really well spent is time pursuing my relationship with God and my relationship with the people He has put in my life.
My mom likes to say that quality time is both quality and quantity. Sometimes it is short, but purposeful and deep. Other times...it's just time! Time laughing together. Time chatting over coffee. Time discussing Scripture. Time singing around the piano. Time playing Legos. Time crocheting. Time rubbing shoulders. Time listening. Time crying.
Times like these are what deepen relationships with my family and friends.
Time with God is vitally important as well. Time talking to Him. Time reading His Word. Time memorizing His Word. Time sitting still and knowing that He is God. Time singing to Him. Time serving His people.
This is time well spent.
Over Christmas break, I am going to try to spend my time well. I sure won't spend every moment  wisely, but my goal is to look back with fondness, having made memories that will last a lifetime and deepening relationships that will last forever.

A Time of Transition

Hello friends!
I will refrain from apologizing about the length of time which has past since I last posted. This summer I was a cook at Iowa Regular Baptist Camp, as you may know if you've seen the "latest" post on my blog:) I spent eleven wonderful weeks learning and growing as I served the Lord.
There are so many things that I could share about my summer! But first I want to answer a popular question:

Q. If you were at camp all those weeks, when did you study for Bible Bee???
A. After much prayer, my parents and I decided that I would do Timothy Track this year. To be transparent with you all, this has been a matter of struggle for me. The Lord impressed on me that He wanted me to work full time at the camp that I've been working part time at for many years. I knew that this would mean some sort of sacrifice on my part, but I thought that perhaps I could still do National Track in the afternoons, or get up super early, or something! But the Lord made it clear that such a plan was not possible, while still giving my everything to the ministry at camp. Also, I start bible college on Monday, which would have made preparing for Nationals difficult if I had qualified. This was a hard decision to make. However, I trust that this is His will and am excited to have learned to 150 verses in Timothy Track! Even that was a challenge on a cook's schedule:)

So, that question answered, here's what my life is looking like right now. I am studying for Local Bible Bee (next Saturday!), unpacking from camp, and preparing for college, which begins in three days!

I am thrilled to have the opportunity to live at home with my wonderful family and go to Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, IA, where my dad works as a professor of music. I have lived around FBBC all my life, and it has always been my dream to be a student there. And now here I am.

I always thought I would feel older when I reached college age, but I don't:) As I buy a backpack, laptop, binders, and textbooks, I wonder where my life has gone!!!! What will my life be like in five years? Ten? The past few years of high school have flown by, and I know that life continues to pick up pace from here on out!

One of the things that God taught me this summer is that my life is not about me. It's really not, folks. The way I use my time and invest my energy shows where my focus is. If my life is all about me, then I am serving the God of myself, and ultimately, sin and Satan. But if my life is all about bringing glory to God, then it should look differently!  My time should be spent in giving of myself to others, serving without selfish motivies. My witness should be bold and effective, since Christ is living in me and He is the desire of my heart!  My spirit should be joyful and sincere, because nothing I do is of my own strength, but because of His spirit who dwells in me!  My focus should be on eternity, because I have only approximately 80 years here, in which my flesh decays and I struggle with sin, but then! Oh the bliss! Freedom from death, from sorrow, from crying! Free from pain...the former things have passed away!
Why would I want to live my life in such a way that I regret it for all eternity?

So my life is not my own. It belongs to my ONE MASTER, the Lord Jesus Christ. I am His slave. And it is a life full of abundant joy to be His slave!  The buck stops with Him, the power comes from Him, and the glory belongs to Him. I am just His messenger, His tool...and yet, I am His child, His friend. The thought takes my breath away.

That's what has been going on my life! Lord willing, from now on, I will be more consistent in posting, but if not...well, it's not about this blog either. As long as I'm bringing glory to Him with what I'm doing, I won't worry about it:)

As summer begins...

What? "last posted on May 5"???? Wow! I'm sorry everyone; time sure flies!

Summer is here. At least it is for me:)  I leave on Tuesday for camp, where I will serving as a cook for eleven weeks! I am so excited and thrilled to see what God will do in and through me! I am praying that He will humble me, and change me more into His image--that no matter how tired I am...I will reflect His love and patience.

God is faithful. God is constant. God is unchangable. God never forgets or loses track of time! God's patience never grows too short. God never snaps at me when I fail, again. God is love. True, selfless love that sacrifices and looks out for the other's best interest.
I so long to be more like Him! I fall so short! And yet, He loves me. He has proved it so that I can never doubt it! He has laid down His life for me, and calls me to do the same for those He brings into my life.

As a graduation gift from a dear friend, I received the book, The Valley of Vision, which is a collection of Puritan prayers. This morning I read one entitled "The All-Good." This paragraph stood out to me:
"That is an amazing thing to see Deity in a creature, speaking, acting, filling, shining through it; that nothing is good but Thee, that I am near good when I am near Thee, that to be like Thee is a glorious thing: this is my magnet, my attraction."

I might be posting again sometime in the future, we shall see:) But until I post again, God bless! Seek the Lord; may He be your magnet, your attraction.

Not just a story

Sometimes I have trouble reading Scripture as fact, as things that REALLY happened. Especially when I'm reading stories in the gospels, stories I've heard since I was...okay, all my life. This morning, I was reading in Matthew, and again, I had to cry out, "LORD, open my eyes! Overwhelm me with Your power."
Fast-forward two seconds...
"And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them."
Nothing glamorous or amazing, right?
Wait! Read that again! HE HEALED THEM!
A lame man...never having walked or ran or skipped or played tagged or climbed a mountain or hopped on one foot or participated in a three-legged race or crawled...
                                         ...and Jesus healed him.
A child...never had he seen light, could not fathom the color red, had never seen how clouds drift in the sky, had never seen his reflection in a pool of water...
...and Jesus healed him.

These are not just words on a page or computer screen, this is the story of a life! Jesus changed these people in an instant. FOREVER!
What about you? Can you look back a moment in your life that Jesus CHANGED you? Maybe not physically, but spiritually. Did He transform your fearful heart into one of bold courage? Did He heal your emotional scars and give you satisfaction in Himself?
Just as real as that moment was in your life, was the moment when God strengthened the legs of a lame man, and opened the eyes of a blind child. Never read Scripture as "just a story." Ask God to blow you away. He will.

(For lack of a better title) my life lately:)

I am sorry that I have been so woefully inconsistent with blogging lately. It has been and is a crazy time of year and of my life!
I finished school a week and a half ago, so that's WONDERFUL!
My graduation recital and open house is this Saturday, so the days have been (and will be through Saturday:) quite busy with preparation for that.
For the past several months, I've been compiling our family recipes into a cookbook, and we are in the final proofing stage! WAHOO! We hope to have a copy out at my open house so crunch time is here:)
This past weekend our youth group put on our annual Easter drama/musical, so we had practices for that at church. Also, on Saturday night, was our Junior/Senior Formal Banquet, which was a marvelous time!
Last week, also, was Holy Week, so we went to our first Passover Seder, and spent time meditating on what Christ has done for us! Our lives have the potential to be so wonderful because of what Christ completed at the cross! It is only our stubbornness and pride that keep us from fully enjoying the things God has given us to do:)
Because of the Cross and the Empty Tomb...I can live a hopeful, vibrant life! Crazy times of life like these shouldn't leave me with a bittersweet taste afterward because LIFE IS WORTH THE LIVING! I have a future ahead of me that has been perfectly planned since before the dawn of time! I am excited to see what this future will hold.
God has been faithful through all my years of home schooling. He will continue to be faithful in the next phase of my life...whatever that will look like:)
"The mind of man plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps." Proverbs 16:9

Psalm 46

This psalm speaks for itself. It doesn't need human commentary. God restores hope and peace in our soul, when we remember that HE is our God!

Psalm 46

To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. A Song for Alamoth.
1 God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear,
Even though the earth be removed,
         And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
3 Though its waters roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with its swelling.  Selah

4 There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God,
The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.
 5 God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved;
God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.
 6 The nations raged,
           the kingdoms were moved;
                   He uttered His voice,
                               the earth melted.

 7 The LORD of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge Selah

8 Come, behold the works of the LORD,
Who has made desolations in the earth.
 9       He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
         He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;
He burns the chariot in the fire.

 10  Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth!
 11 The LORD of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge.  Selah

When Pressed on Every Side

"Be wise as serpents and innocent as doves" says the New Testament.  Discernment: choosing who to listen to when surrounded by many voices whispering (or shouting) council.
Back in the Old Testament, Nehemiah was trying to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, a huge task in itself. But then you add in the opposition...
Four letters come from Tobiah and Sanballat, inviting Nehemiah to come meet with them. He saw through it as a trap, and so refused. Then they send him a fifth letter, "It is known all around that you and the Jews are going to rebel, and that you are trying to make yourself their king." Most people would get worked up at the effects of such a false report, but Nehemiah responds: "No such things as you say have been done, for you are inventing them out of your own mind."
Calm. He knows that their objective is to frighten them from the work. Then a brief cry rises from Nehemiah, "But now, O God, strengthen my hands!"
Then a "friend" of his warns him that "they" are going to try and kill him by night. The Lord gives him the discernment that this friend is in the pay of his enemies, and so disregards the "help."
"Remember Sanballat and Tobiah, O my God, according to these things that they did, and also the prophetess Noadiah and all the rest of the prophets who wanted to make me afraid."

"In those days, the rulers of Judah sent many letters to Tobiah..." Wait, what????
...and Tobiah's letters came to them." Hold it! What is going on?
"For many in Judah were bound by oath to him, because he was the son-in-law of Shecaniah the son of Arah; and his son Jehohanan had taken the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah as his wife." Oh, now it's clear. Okay, maybe not:)
These people named (Shecaniah, Jehohanan, Meshullam, Berechiah) are all powerful men in the land. They are leaders of the province Beyond the River. They are a mighty lobbying group that the men of Judah can't afford to offend.
And so they speak many words of Tobiah's wisdom and good conduct in the presence of Nehemiah.
Poor Nehemiah is getting threatening letters and messages. He has prophets telling him of his doom. His "advisors" and "friends" are actually in the pay of his enemy.
He is hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed. And why not?
Because he is continually reminding himself of the TRUTH. When we are surrounded by enemies and those who drag us down, it wears on us, and we become discouraged, eventually giving up. UNLESS, we remind ourselves of who we are in God and what God has promised to us.
Nehemiah had a direct command from God to rebuild the city walls of Jerusalem.  God promised to be with him, to give him strength. God is Nehemiah's God. He has a relationship with Him, and he will not be shaken.
Nehemiah has little prayers interspersed throughout his book. "God be my strength." "Oh my God, strengthen my hands!"
Back in chapter 2, "And the kind granted to me what I said, for the good hand of my God was upon me."
He continually reminds himself, no matter how dark the night, that God is my with him. God is his strength. God is his fortress. God is his commander.

And we must do the same, my friends. When those around us don't understand why we stand, when we are so busy with activities we are ready to keel over, when we are troubled in our spirit by doubts and weaknesses...tell yourself the truth.  Remind yourself of who you were before Christ, who you are in Christ, and what God wants you to do through Christ! Do not let the shadowy voices of counsel drain your strength. Do not let the enemy make you afraid.

There are so many verses that remind us that God is our strength! God is our shelter! God will never leave us or forsake us! God is our defender! God is our TRUTH!
Keep your eyes focused on the Lord and His promises, and not the "giants in the land," who, though many, are no match for our God!

trusting

What does trust look like?
I don't always understand what it means to trust God. Yesterday morning in church, my pastor spoke on walking in the footsteps in Christ. One of the ways we do this is by Trusting God Completely.  This is what looks like:

"God has every right and my permission to rearrange my life at any time and in any way in order to fulfill His plan for my life."

Wow. Read that again. Let it sink in. I've been thinking about it almost 24 hours now, and it still gives my shivers. Can I really say that?
I want to be able to say that with every fiber of my being, but sometimes...well, I am not trusting. God is always worthy of my trust, whether I am completely surrendered to Him of not.
In saying the above statement, I am saying that anything God does in my life is fine with me, even if it's painful, even if it seems pointless...I trust Him. No matter what.
This is how I WANT to live. Lord, give me grace to trust You more.

When God Moves

What would cause a pagan emperor to be concerned about the house of the Israelite God?
What would cause a pagan emperor to give up countless wealth in order to refurbish the temple?
What would cause people to leave a prosperous nation for a barren land?

The children of Israel have been strangers in a strange land for 70 years. They are confused; they are losing their identity. They are almost ready to give up.

Then the new king, Cyrus of Persia, issues a decree that as many of them as so desire are allowed to go home to Judea. PLUS, he provides them with provisions, money, and the previously-stolen Temple treasures!
So many people return, overjoyed to be back in the Holy Land.  They lay the foundation for the second Temple, and the reaction is mixed. Some (the young ones) are full of joy: they are on their way! The older folks weep in anguish: this temple is nothing like Solomon's temple.
But despite it's smaller size, it's still the temple. In progress.
Then comes the opposition. "We worship your God, too. Can't we help?" Wow, what a nice offer, coming from pagan, pantheistic enemies!  The Jewish leaders rightly refuse the request. "For what has the light to do with darkness?"
But our wonderful antagonists don't handle refusal well. They write a letter to the higher authority, King Artaxerxes. They complain about these rebellious Jews who are always causing trouble, and ask permission to stop them. Wish granted.
For 15 years, work on the temple ceased. The people were in fear of their own lives, not to mention being exiled again.
But then God gave them courage. It was now the appointed time. So they resume building.
Then our "friends" send another letter, to the new king, Darius. They ask if the original decree of Cyrus carries any weight, or if they can stop this work of rebellion.
But Darius does not fall for it. He looks in the records and sure enough, sees what Cyrus commanded. He not only gives permission for them to continue building and that they are to be undisturbed, he commands the wicked men to assist them dailywith provisions for the temple.

What would cause a pagan emperor to be concerned about the house of the Israelite God?
What would cause a pagan emperor to give up countless wealth in order to refurbish the temple?
What would cause people to leave a prosperous nation for a barren land?

Ezra 1:1 "In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the LORD spoken by Jeremiah, the LORD moved the heartof Cyrus king of Persia..."

Ezra 1:5 "Then the family heads of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests and Levites—everyone whose heart God had moved—prepared to go up and build the house of the LORD in Jerusalem."

Ezra 7:6 "...this Ezra came up from Babylon. He was a teacher well versed in the Law of Moses, which the LORD, the God of Israel, had given. The king had granted him everything he asked, for the hand of the LORD his God was on him.

Ezra 7:27-28 "Blessed be the LORD, the God of our fathers, who put such a thing as this into the heart of the king, to beautify the house of the LORD that is in Jerusalem, and who extended to me his steadfast love before the king and his counselors, and before all the king’s mighty officers. I took courage, for the hand of the LORD my God was on me, and I gathered leading men from Israel to go up with me."

When God moves, my friends, there are no odds too great, no king too mighty, no people too stubborn, no NOTHING that can stand in His way. Nothing is impossible with our God.

And when God moves in the hearts of men, trust Him. And let Him work the impossible.

Where I am today

Perfect submission, all is at rest
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

That's where I am this morning. I hope you are, too:) It's a good place to be.

The Promise

"For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself, saying, "Surely I will bless you and multiply you." "And thus Abraham, having patiently waited, obtained the promise.  "For people swear by something greater than themselves, and in all their disputes an oath is final for confirmation. "So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath,  so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.  We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek." Hebrews 6:13-20
I am finding much hope in these verses today! They are preceeded by verses about "falling away," which no matter what your understanding of that term is, they are a rather frightening thought. But the point of them, as stated in Hebrews 6:10-12, is that we may press onward and seek to be even more earnest in our faith, that we may be certain on our hope. The passage above compares our hope with that of Abraham's, as we have the same guarantee of our hope. God swore by Himself, though His promise alone would be unchangable, so that Abraham would come to understand WHO GOD IS, and that nothing He says will ever fall to the ground. When God says something, you can be sure that it will come to pass. But God swore by Himself, so that the promise of blessing was doubly-insured by the GREAT I AM, for Whom IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO EVER LIE. What is the result of this truth? Why does it matter? It matters because "we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.  We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain!" If those words do not fill your soul with a joy that could explode into song...you either need to read them again, or consider your spiritual state.
We can hold fast to the truths we have been taught, because He who promised is faithful! This Holy Word is 100% true and accurate...GOD SAID SO. Nothing He says ever fails. He is Truth. When He says that whoever believes on Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life, it's true. When He says the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses me from all sin, it's true. When He says that Jesus Christ ascended on high, and is interceding on our behalf, it's true. When He says that Jesus is preparing A PLACE FOR US, where neither moth or rust can decay, and where thieves cannot break in and steal, it's true. When He says that to him who overcomes, he will be given a crown of life, it's true. When He says that in heaven we shall have no sorrow, death, or pain, it's true. When He says that we will be forever at peace and joyful in the presence of our God and Savior, it's True!
We can trust Him, friends! Not only is EVERYTHING HE SAYS TRUTH, but HE IS TRUTH. And when He swears by Himself, well, you can bet your life that it will come to pass! And that's what we're called to do as Christians. Give your life as insurance that every word of God is true, that you are willing to live and die to proclaim the Name of Him who ransomed your life from destruction and in whom YOU HAVE ETERNAL HOPE.
We have this sure and steadfast anchor of the soul.

"And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance of hope until the end, so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises." Hebrews 6:11-12

I am His and He is Mine!

I AM HIS, AND HE IS MINE

Words: George W. Ro bin son, 1876.
Music: Ev er last ing LoveJames Mount ain, 1876 (MI DIscore). Mount ain wrote the tune for these lyr ics so the hymn could be in clud ed in the first edi tion of his Hymns of Con se cra tion and Faith.

Loved with everlasting love, led by grace that love to know;
Gracious Spirit from above, Thou hast taught me it is so!
O this full and perfect peace! O this transport all divine!
In a love which cannot cease, I am His, and He is mine.
In a love which cannot cease, I am His, and He is mine.

Heav’n above is softer blue, Earth around is sweeter green!
Something lives in every hue Christless eyes have never seen;
Birds with gladder songs o’erflow, flowers with deeper beauties shine,
Since I know, as now I know, I am His, and He is mine.
Since I know, as now I know, I am His, and He is mine.

Things that once were wild alarms cannot now disturb my rest;
Closed in everlasting arms, pillowed on the loving breast.
O to lie forever here, doubt and care and self resign,
While He whispers in my ear, I am His, and He is mine.
While He whispers in my ear, I am His, and He is mine.

His forever, only His; Who the Lord and me shall part?
Ah, with what a rest of bliss Christ can fill the loving heart!
Heav’n and earth may fade and flee, firstborn light in gloom decline;
But while God and I shall be, I am His, and He is mine.
But while God and I shall be, I am His, and He is mine.

What beautiful thoughts! What an encouragement to my soul!
WHO THE LORD AND MEE SHALL PART!
WHAT BLISS to KNOW MY GOD!
HE HAS FILLED ME WITH JOY AND GIVEN ME LIFE ABUNDANT!
"O to lie forever here" - there is a perfect rest for the people of God, which we have access to always!
Everything is brighter, better, sweeter, with Jesus! And in times when things are not so bright, we have no need to fear or worry, because we are united with Christ!
Forever will not be long enough for me to tire of this perfect, blissful rest...

Latest Treasures...

Long ago, God, in many different ways, revealed himself to us through many different people, who like us were mere men.
But in these last days, He has spoken to use in a special way, using a personal messenger. He has spoken to us through His Son.
His Son is the heir and inheritor of the entire world, because through HIS POWER the world was created.
He IS the radiance of God's glory.
He is not just a reflection of God; He is the EXACT IMPRINT OF GOD.
He UPHOLDS THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE, which He created and will inherit, by THE WORD OF HIS POWER.
"After making purification for sins..."
after taking the form of a slave,
after taking on mere humanity,
after submitting Himself to serve those whom He created,
after surrendering to their humiliation of Him,
after suffering in His human body in the cruelest means of death,
after suffering through utter separation from THE FATHER,
after making Himself the scapegoat for OUR SIN,
He sat down.
He, being God, being All-Powerful, completed that which we could never do.
He paid the debt for our sin, took our well-deserved punishment, then ascended back to the heights of HIS GLORY : THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD : The Ultimate Seat of Power, Authority, and Blessing!

And we are IN CHRIST. We are united with Him in His death, and in His Resurrection, and someday...
WE ARE TO SHARE IN HIS GLORY.

My disease

Something has been gradually dawning on me the past couple days. I couldn't really understand what it was, couldn't understand why I was feeling the way I was. (And no, I'm not going to come out with an announcement that "I'm in love!")
I have been suffering from a gradual, deadly disease. It threatens to suck the very joy out of my life. It wraps it's ugly hands around my eyes, until I can't even see anymore.
It's name is "going through the motions."
It's so sneaky, because it looks like you're doing all the right things, saying nice things, doing nice things...but inside you're dying for air.
It came upon me so slowly, that I'm not even sure when it began. It could be days or weeks.

My parents gave me several new devotional books for my birthday on Wednesday. The one I decided to start is called "Purity," by Lydia Brownback. As I was reading the first chapter,
"A Pure Woman is Clear-sighted," something niggled at the back of my heart. As I read, A pure heart is one so set on God that it isn't watered down with lesser things, I felt uncomfortable. "I don't feel like I can really see God right now. What this devotional is talking about is not where I am right now. What's wrong with me?"
Then last night, I read the second chapter, "A Pure Woman has One Desire." The theme verse is one that I have memorized, and even spoke on myself.
Psalm 73:25-26 "Whom have I in heaven but You, and there is none upon earth that I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart fail, but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever."
The thing that bothers me is that I have tasted this kind of passion and desire! I have known it to be true in my heart and life! But I slip, I fall, I grow stagnant in my desire! As I was going to bed, I knew this had to change! I am sick of half-hearted prayers, blah-blah devotions, and being caught up in the dailiness of life!
This morning, I got up with my alarm, and got out my Bible, my spiritual journal, and my coffee and sat on the futon. I looked at the same Bible I had been reading out of every day, and said, "God, I'm sick of the way I've been acting in my soul, like You aren't enough, like You aren't satisfying. Show me SOMETHING that I can cling to!"
I opened my Bible at random, and came to 1 Samuel 12, thinking to myself, "What is Samuel's final address going to teach me right now?" Samuel walks the people of Israel through all their foolishness, their going after other gods, like the people all around them.
"But you have forgotten the Lord your God." I stopped reading. I have forgotten God in the business of life. He has become a small part of my routine, like brushing my teeth. I don't really think about Him after I've done my time!
I cried out, "I'm sick of this! What can I do?"
Then I got to verses 20 and 21.

"And Samuel said to the people, "Do not be afraid; you have done all this evil. Yet do not turn aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart. And do not turn aside after empty things that cannot profit or deliver, for they are empty."

Thank You, LORD! I have done evil. I have done and thought things I should not. I have not done things I should. But I do not have to be afraid! What I need to do is NOT TURN ASIDE FROM FOLLOWING! I can't let even my own failures discourage me from following, from clinging to my GOD with my WHOLE HEART! Serve Him! Follow Him! Worship Him! Love Him! Praise Him!

And DO NOT TURN ASIDE AFTER EMPTY THINGS...for they are empty. They cannot satisfy.

Follow God. Serve Him with your whole heart.

"If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself." 2 Timothy 2:13

Day 7: 5 Things you couldn't possibly live without!

1. MY GOD - He is my LIFE, my very breath! Without Him, I would curl up and die or explode into a ball of fire!  He is my Savior, my best Friend, my Comforter, my EVERYTHING! I cannot overemphasize that HE is my GOD and I couldn't possibly live without HIM!
2. The Word of GOD- The Bible. Through this living book, I can KNOW God!  I can see what He is like, what He has promised, what His plan is for my life, what I am to do when I am discouraged, hurting or joyful...without it, I would have no direction, hope or satisfaction! It is the delight of my soul.
3. My family - is the BEST! I have godly parents whose goal in life is to honor God, love and serve one another, and raise us with a vision to do the same! I am in the small minority in having an amazing family like that! I have one older sister, three younger sisters, and two little brothers--who are all my best friends:) I love everyone in my family for their individuality, their personal desire for God, and the way they make my life so fun!!!! I can't imagine life without them:)
4. Food - I really couldn't  live without this:) But I'm also really thankful that God made it so yummy, especially coffee, chocolate, peanut butter, berries, pomegranates, grapefruit, buttery rolls, delicious salads with blue cheese dressing...God made life so enjoyable!
5. My brothers and sisters in Christ - every where I go, I can find believers and it's like a family reunion!  I love it! I can feel at home anywhere because the church is universal and the love of Christ is so powerful!
6. (yes, I'm cheating and adding another...) Water. I would die if I didn't have it, but it's so delicious and pure and satisfying. No other drink satisfies my thirst, and I can never drink enough of it! I'm so thankful that God made something so necessary to our bodies, so refreshing!

Day 5: A Favorite Quote

Now this is tough! I'm going to go with this one from A.W. Tozer; it always cuts me to the heart.

"Let us beware lest we in our pride accept the erroneous notion that idolatry consists only in kneeling before visible objects of adoration, and that civilized people are therefore free from it.  The essence of idolatry is the entertainment of thoughts about God that are unworthy of Him. It begins in the mind…the idolater simply imagines things about God and acts as if they were true. "

Wow.

The Savior's Love

I stand amazed in the presence of Jesus the Nazarene,
and wonder how He could love me,
a sinner, condemned, unclean.
How marvelous! How wonderful!
And my song shall ever be,
How marvelous! How wonderful is my Savior's love for me!

Revelling in such unfathomable love today, which gives me hope, joy and contentment!

When I am weak

This morning I read Psalm 6 and verse 2 really resonated.
"Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I am weak."
I am weak.
I never realized I was weak until the past two or three years. I always felt strong and able to do amazing things someday.
Then in the summer of 2008, for the first time in my life, I looked at myself as God saw me. I looked at my soul, with all its sin. I saw myself as completely, 100% sinner.
It was then I realized that I am weak.
Since then, God has changed my heart, He has shown me HOW GREAT AND LOVING AND POWERFUL HE IS! And how small and insignificant and worthless I am.
How amazed I am that He would choose to create me at all. That He would choose to love me as His child. That He would choose to use me to further His kingdom!
When I was strong and, in my own eyes, capable of doing things for God, He couldn't use me. He doesn't want the strong, the great, and the powerful. He wants to use the weak, the foolish things of the world to bring to shame those great things. He wants to use puny me to show the world that GOD IS GREAT because He used a nobody like me to bring glory to His name!
That's what I long for with every fiber of my being! To bring glory to my GOD!
But I must see my weakness, my nothingness, my helplessness. I must know that nothing I am doing is because of me..."Help me, O LORD, for I am weak!"
Bring glory to Your name, O Lord! "For when I am weak, then I am strong."
